Perspectives Notes - L3: Your Kingdom Come

Lesson 3: Your Kingdom Come  - Jacquelyn Friberg (2/3/14)
Notes by Lana

What does it mean by “Thy Kingdom Come?”
·     Definition of Kingdom = exercising of God’s kingship in God’s way / the “right to rule”
·     Jesus said “Receive the KOG as little children” – submit to God’s kingship
·     Mystery of how His Kingdom come – twice
  1. Quietly – only few knew
  2. Gloriously – as a King
·       Matthew 11:4-6 – Jesus’ answer – a time of healing, a time of mercy, a time of reaching out – giving them the opportunity to believe
·       Jesus is known as:
1.     Son of God
2.     Daniel 7:13– Son of Man
3.     Isaiah 53 – The hope that we have / The Servant King; Isaiah - Suffering servant

·       We are living between Jesus’ 1st & 2nd coming
·       Luke 19:10 – He came to seek & save the lost; & we are sent for the same purpose – “operation rescue”, but beyond what we can do, he went on to die on the cross
·       We are called to declare & display God’s triumph over sin & death
·       Matthew 24:14 – “And this gospel of the Kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, & then the end will come.
·       It’s not about personal fulfillment, or being comfortable, it’s about absolute surrender; the things that break the heart of God should break ours.
·       Matt 28:18-20 – “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
·       Stories #1: feeding the 5000 – EVERYONE was fed – it’s the same in the KOG, ALL nations should have an opportunity to hear the gospel

·       3 ways of evangelism:
  1. Presence
  2. Proclamation – making the gospel clear so that people can understand & accept – being INTENTIONAL about sharing the gospel; opportunities that accompanied your presence
  3. Persuasion – ensuring that they are discipled & grow as a child of God
·       The KOG does not come from our indigenous strength, God is already working in the hearts of people, we come alongside with Him
·       We are not building the Kingdom, but building FOR the Kingdom. It signifies the character of the King – righteousness, fairness, goodness, justice etc.
·       We have to count the cost – 1 Corinthians 15:58
·       Prayer is key – it’s not some magic formula, but we are coming alongside with Him, & we are praying for him to work
·       Spiritual warfare is real in the mission field!!
·       There is HOPEEEEEEEEE
·       God longs to communicate His love, grace & mercy during times of suffering – the call to stay amidst suffering
·       Obedience to God does not mean immunity from suffering, even lost of lives; a cross is still a cross – it is a symbol of suffering. However, unconditional obedience to the cross brings great joy
·       In God’s kingdom, there are things (people) worth dying for
·       The authority to speak into people’s lives comes in the form of living & reaching out to them
